Lough Neagh System - Lower Bann for Trout Fishing and Salmon Fishing
Lower Bann
The Lower Bann is an internationally renowned angling river
for both coarse and game fishing. The stretch between Lough Beg and Portglenone
is arguably to be one of the best in Europe for Coarse and Pike fishing.
A 14 mile stretch from the Eel Weir at Toomebridge, including Lough Beg,
Newferry and Portglenone, the Lower Bann provides some of Europes
finest coarse fishing. Average catches are 150 fish. Coarse fishing is
accessible along both banks at Toome, turning left prior and after the
Bann Bridge (from Belfast, follow A6 from Randalstown to Toome); accessible
at Newferry - along west bank and Portglenone (along Ballymacombs Road)
where there are 90 fishing stands. Coarse fishing on the Lower Bann and
Lough Beg is excellent catches of 20 30kg per day can be
enjoyed. The waters are abundant in Bream, Roach, and Hybrids and Pike
in Lough Beg. The famous Lough Neagh Eels are a lure to the coarse fisherman
too, with excellent fishing on the Bann near Toomebridge. All lawful method
of angling are allowed including ground bait and maggots for coarse fish.
Fish Type - Pike, Perch, Roach, Bream, Hybrids, and Eels.
Season - All year round You will need a Licence and a Day/Season Permit
Licence Authority - Fisheries Conservancy Board - Magherafelt District
Council run and maintains a coarse fishing facility at Portglenone. This
facility consists of 89 platform fishing points and is open all year round.
