The Agivey river is a medium (5-20m) sized tributary of
the Lower Bann, which has a good head of Brown Trout but is probably better
known as a Salmon and Grilse River. There are a few spring fish in March,
and May sees the arrival of the first Grilse, but June, July and September
are the best months for Salmon. The majority of the fish will be Grilse
in the 4-6lb (2.75kg) but there are also a fair number of double figure
fish around. Although a spate can help the fishing it is not always essential
once the fish are in. Fly fishing, spinning and worming are permitted
methods and a Ghillie service at £40/day can be arranged.
