Glenelly and Owenkillew River
15 miles, 24km
Glenelly & Owenkillew Fishing Association
Gortin, Newtownstewart & Omagh, Co. Tyrone
The Glenelly River runs through the Sperrins past Plumbridge.
These are two medium sized rivers (5 20m), which have small wild
Brown Trout (occasionally bigger specimens ) but which are better known
for Salmon and Sea Trout fishing. The latter is best in June and July
and while some fresh water helps a full blown spate is not required in
these sections for Sea Trout. Grilse and Salmon may be present from mid
June on if there is sufficient water but often it is from August to October
that the Salmon fishing is at its best. The rivers are ideally suited
to the fly fisherman but on some stretches spinning and worming are also
allowed. A Ghillie or Guide can be arranged on some of this water given
prior notice. Nearest towns are Plumbridge and Gortin. River accessible
from B47.
